James is a prolific and versatile actor, director and dramaturg.
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (BA Acting 2013), and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MA Classical Acting, 2017).
He is currently appearing in The Australian tour of Puffs (or Seven Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic).
Most recently, James has appeared in over 200 performances for Pop Up Globe. He played Oliver in As You Like It and Westmoreland in Henry V during the Melbourne season, and has recently understudied Shylock, Antonio, Gratiano and the Duke in The Merchant of Venice, and Helena, Lysander, Demetrius and the Mechanicals in A Midsummer Nights Dream in the successful Sydney season.
He has also been seen as Prince Henri De Conde in The Devils, Egeus and Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Richard Murphet's Quick Death/Slow Love at La Mama Theatre, The Rivers of China at TheatreWorks, Once Were Pirates, and playing the title role in the hugely successful revival of The Legend of King O'Malley in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Whilst training at the VCA, he played Gayev in The Cherry Orchard, Ludwig Leichhardt in Too Young for Ghosts, Billy in Five Kinds of Silence, Prospero in The Tempest, and The Blind Man in Eddie Goes to Poetry City. His other credits include Safe Sex, Putting it Together, I Love You Because, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The History Boys, Generous and Dogg's Hamlet/Cahoot's Macbeth.
He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Bar'd Work, a theatre and entertainment company based in Sydney, for whom he recently directed Much Ado About Nothing.
James is a proud member of MEAA since 2013.
