Biography
James is an actor, singer and director.
A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (BA Acting 2013), and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MA Classical Acting, 2017).
Currently, James is the Resident Director for the Australian Tour of Gaslight, directed by Lee Lewis for Queensland Theatre and New Theatricals, starring Geraldine Hakewill, Toby Schmitz and Kate Fitzpatrick.
He recently appeared in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Hayes Theatre, as well as Squabbalogic's production of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever at the Seymour Centre.
He toured Australia as Tinsworthy in Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 The Musical, also understudying and frequently performing as Franklin Hart Jr. alongside Caroline O'Connor, Marina Prior and Casey Donovan.
Prior to this, he played the role of Grandpa George and covered Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, for CrossRoads Live.
For Sport for Jove Theatre, James performed as Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, Prince Escalus in Romeo & Juliet, and most recently Iago in Othello.
He also played various roles in Puffs: Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.
James appeared in over 200 performances for the internationally successful Pop-Up Globe. He played Oliver in As You Like It and Westmoreland in Henry V during the Melbourne season, and A Midsummer Nights Dream and The Merchant of Venice in the Sydney season.
He has also been seen as Prince Henri De Conde in The Devils, Egeus and Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Richard Murphet's Quick Death/Slow Love at La Mama Theatre, The Rivers of China at TheatreWorks, Once Were Pirates, and playing the title role in the hugely successful revival of The Legend of King O'Malley in both Sydney and Melbourne.
He was the co-founder and Artistic Director of Bar'd Work, a theatre and entertainment company based in Sydney, for whom he directed Much Ado About Nothing.
He sits on the Industry Advisory Board for the Queensland Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre.
James is a proud member of MEAA since 2013.
